Simple Mantou

Steamed buns are simple to make. I made these buns by using this recipe:

1 cup bread flour

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 cup lukewarm water

1 tsp instant yeast

1/2 teaspoon sugar

Mix the above together to get a smooth dough. Shape into a ball and place in a bowl, cover with cling wrap and leave to rise until double in size.

Once double, add in

1/2 cup pau flour

1tbsp vegan margarine

1 tbsp sugar

1/4 tsp salt

Knead to get soft dough, adding 2-4 tbsp water as needed. Roll up dough and cut into eight pieces. Place each roll on a piece of grease paper and leave to rise in warm place till doubled in size. Steam over high heat for 15 minutes.

Assorted Buns

Today I decided to make some assorted bun from the same batch of sweet dough. I made 'sausage' bun, 'tuna' bun and 'ham' bun! Using vegan margarine and dairy free!

More Bread

I practised my breadmaking with cinnamon raisin bun and oatmeal bread. For the oatmeal bread, instead of honey I used corn syrup and : delicious! Both bread are eggless and made with soya milk. The cinnamon bun has a very crunchy texture.
